April 14 Real Talk webinar is second of two-part series addressing racism as a public health crisis

Akron Beacon Journal - 4/10/2021

The second part of a two-part series discussing racism as a public health crisis continues on Wednesday, April 14.

The free webinar series is part of the Real Talk program, a diversity, equity and inclusion program of four Northeast Ohio Leagues of Women Voters (Akron Area, Greater Cleveland, Hudson and Kent), in partnership with the Akron NAACP and WKSU.

The public health series, "Racism Is A Public Health Crisis: Impacts on Health, Healthcare Access, and Quality of Care," began with a webinar Wednesday, April 7, that featured state, county and city government leaders. To watch that event, go to realtalklwv.org/watch.html

It will continue with the second part at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, and will feature health care leaders and policy experts discussing why systemic racism disproportionately impacts the individual and public health of communities of color and explain the targeted approaches to combat it.

The upcoming session will be moderated by Marlene Harris-Taylor, managing producer health news, ideastream, WCPN/NPR, WVIZ/PBS. The panel will

address chronic health issues such as diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, poor women's health and infant mortality — and explain the obstacles to quality health care.
